Presenter - Dr. Sangita Sharma

Title: Community based and community driven nutrition and physical activity intervention programs for prevention of chronic disease and to improve dietary adequacy for the Inuit, Inuvialuit and First Nations
Dr. Sharma is a gifted researcher and scholar. She is an expert in the relationship between nutrition, ethnicity, and disease, focusing on why different ethnic groups have different risk factors and rates of chronic disease.

Dr. Judith Pike Graduated from Medicine at Queen’s University, Belfast. Northern Ireland in 1969.
From 1969 to 1971 she completed postgraduate training with a rotating Internship in Internal Medicine at Belfast.

Dr Bob Newman attained a Bacherlors Degree from UBC in 1975 and went on to graduate from the UBC medical program in 1979.
He completed his studies with an internship in New Zealand in 1979 to 1980 and then upgraded with GP Aesthesia training from Vancouver General Hospital in 1981.

Dr. Elizabeth Bastian is a graduate of McGill University. She has been based in Smithers, BC for the last 28 years and worked for many years as a full service GP in rural/remote practice. In 2005 she completed training through the BCCA as a GP in Oncology and began work with the Smithers Community Cancer Services.

Presenter - George Eisler

Title: Linking Healthcare and Education Planning
Dr. George Eisler recently (March 31, 2009) stepped down from the position of CEO, BC Academic Health Council (BCAHC). He was its founding CEO in January 2003. As a unique collaborative initiative between BC’s advanced education and health care sectors, BCAHC’s particular focus is on joint strategies for healthcare workforce development and education.
Presenter - Dr. David Snadden
Associate Dean, Northern Medical Program, Faculty of Medicine, UBC and Associate Vice-President Medicine, UNBC
Title: Increasing the number of physicians in rural areas; expansion of undergraduate medical education in BC with an emphasis on rural training
David Snadden is Vice Provost Medicine at the University of Northern BC, and Assistant Dean Northern Medical Program at the University of British Columbia. In addition he is a Professor at both institutions.
Presenter - Tracey Keighley-Clarke

Title: Thinking Outside the Box: Bringing Radiation Therapy to Rural
A Registered Nurse and Certified Oncology Nurse, Tracey has held a variety of positions including staff nurse, team leader, manager, program manager, and director. For the last decade, Tracey has worked in the cancer field developing a small community cancer clinic into a full service regional cancer program with a dedicated and passionate team.
